**MEDIA ADVISORY** Hastings to Speak at Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-Miramar) will give remarks at the Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival on Saturday, August 21 at 3:00 p.m. at the African American Research Library in Fort Lauderdale. The festival runs from August 20 through August 22 and seeks to celebrate the Gullah/Geechee Nation and reconnect with the Gullah/Geechee Diaspora.  The event is hosted by Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, along with the Wisdom Circle Council of Elders and Assembly of Representatives for the Gullah/Geechee Nation.  The Gullah/Geechee Nation represents the descendants of African slaves brought to the U.S. during the 18th and 19th centuries, many of which still live in the Carolinas, Georgia and North Florida regions.
